England Lions Squad and Captains in St Kitts

Two new captains lead the way, and the 50-over squad is slightly bigger than the T20 group.

  • Head coach: Jonathan Trott
  • T20 captain: Thomas Rew (Somerset)
  • 50-over captain: Dan Lawrence (Surrey)
  • Uncapped: Adam Finch (Worcestershire) is the only player yet to win an England cap
  • Contracts: Nine players come from the new Central Contracts list, including Rehan Ahmed, Sam Cook and Lawrence

Rew, Eddie Jack and James Coles won’t see out the whole tour. They fly to Australia after the third 50-over match, so the 4th and 5th matches will be played without them. Rew has earned his call-up to the England men’s squad for the T20 series there, which our full list covers.

What the Lions Schedule Means for England Selection

Both squads read like an audition list. Here’s what to watch:

  • Rehan Ahmed and Jack Haynes feature in both formats, so they get a full run of eight matches.
  • Rew captains the T20s, then switches to playing under Lawrence in the 50-over games.
  • The 3rd match on Wednesday 11 November is the one to circle for Rew, Jack and Coles, as it’s their last before heading to Australia.

England Lions Open at Conaree Sports Club on 1 November and Finish at Warner Park on 16 November

The Lions open at Conaree Sports Club on Sunday 1 November and close at Warner Park on Monday 16 November, so the tour packs eight matches into 16 days. Rew’s side gets three T20s first, then five 50-over matches under Lawrence, with three players heading to Australia after the third of those.

It’s a proper audition for England’s next wave. Cricket Insider UK will keep following the wider international cricket picture, so check back for squad changes and updates as the tour unfolds.
