Warwickshire have moved quickly in the overseas market. The Bears have signed India left-arm spinner Manav Suthar on a short-term deal. The 23-year-old arrives at Edgbaston off the back of a remarkable Test debut against Afghanistan.

He will be available for the next two rounds of the Rothesay County Championship. Warwickshire are pressing on with their title challenge.

Suthar Joins Warwickshire for Two County Games

The Birmingham club confirmed on Wednesday that Suthar will be available for selection for two fixtures. He is in line to feature against Yorkshire at Scarborough from 12 to 15 June. A trip to Somerset at Taunton follows the week after.

Speaking on the deal, Suthar said he was eager to contribute immediately. “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Warwickshire for the next two County Championship games. The team have started the season very well. I’m hoping I can play a part in their push for the title.”

The signing comes days after one of the most striking debut performances of the English summer’s calendar. Picked for India’s one-off Test against Afghanistan, Suthar struck in his first over. He claimed six for 33 in the first innings. Another wicket in the second gave him match figures of seven for 62.

It was the kind of introduction that announces a spinner rather than merely introduces one. The performance has clearly accelerated his arrival on the county circuit.

What Suthar Brings to the Bears

Suthar is a product of Rajasthan’s domestic system. He arrives at Edgbaston with a serious first-class record. The left-armer has 129 wickets in 29 matches before his India cap. His ability to extract turn and bounce should suit Scarborough’s varied surfaces. He offers a genuine wicket-taking option in conditions that often demand patience from seamers.

Warwickshire Title Push

Performance Director James Thomas welcomed the signing as both a tactical addition and a statement of intent. “We’re delighted to welcome Manav to the Bears, at a really exciting time for the team. We’ve played some good red-ball cricket already this season, and Manav will bring a new aspect to our bowling attack.”

For a Warwickshire side eyeing silverware, a spinner of Suthar’s current form could prove a shrewd late-spring acquisition.
