The 113-match England-wide Vitality Blast 2026 will run from May 22 to July 18. It all kicks off with nine matches on the first Friday night and will then feature nearly two months of T20-action before Finals Day in Edgbaston.
There’s the odd minor change of format this year, too. The 18 counties are now split into three groups of six, rather than two larger groups. The two best from each group and the two best third-placed teams across the groups will qualify for the quarter-finals. That should bring the table closer and make the early games more crucial.
Somerset are the reigning champions having defeated Hampshire in the 2025 final, and the pair clash once more on opening night at Taunton.

T20 Blast 2026 Format and Qualification
The 2026 edition introduces a new three-group structure that replaces the traditional North and South division split.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Groups | 3 groups of 6 teams |
| Matches per team | 10 group stage games |
| Qualification | Top 2 per group + 2 best third-placed teams |
| Quarter-Finals | 8 teams, hosted at top-qualifier home grounds |
| Finals Day | Semi-finals and final at Edgbaston |
Each team plays every other team in their group twice, once home and once away. That gives every county 10 group matches to make their case for qualification. The eight qualifiers then play single-elimination quarter-finals, with the four winners advancing to Finals Day at Edgbaston.
Key Fixtures to Watch
Some matches just carry more weight than others, whether it’s a local rivalry, a defending champion’s marquee game, or a fixture with knockout implications built into the schedule.
- Fri, May 22: Somerset vs Hampshire (Taunton) – A rematch of last year’s final on the very first night. Somerset won the 2025 title at this ground, and Hampshire will be desperate for revenge right out of the gate.
- Fri, Jun 5: Yorkshire vs Lancashire (Headingley) – The Roses derby under lights at Headingley is always one of the most atmospheric games on the calendar. This one should be no different.
- Fri, Jul 3: Nottinghamshire vs Lancashire (Trent Bridge) – Two sides with genuine knockout ambitions meeting at Trent Bridge in the business end of the group stage.
- Fri, Jul 10: Lancashire vs Yorkshire (Old Trafford) – The reverse Roses fixture, this time at Old Trafford with potential qualification on the line. Late-season derbies don’t get much bigger than this.
- Sun, Jul 12: Nine simultaneous matches – The final day of group cricket. Every fixture matters and the qualification picture could change with every result across all three groups.
- Sat, Jul 18: Finals Day (Edgbaston) – Two semi-finals and a final all on the same day. It’s the best day in English domestic cricket, bar none.
