Eight sides, one trophy, and tonight it finally kicks off. MI London Women host Sunrisers Leeds Women at the Kia Oval in the tournament opener, and with it comes the first entry in a points table that will decide who reaches Lord’s on the 16th of August.
Here’s how the table looks, how it’s calculated, and what it takes to make the knockouts.

How the Points System Works
Cricket Insider UK gets asked this every season, so here’s the breakdown in plain terms. It’s simple once you see it laid out.
- A win is worth 2 points.
- A tie or a no result (a match washed out or abandoned) earns each side 1 point.
- A defeat earns nothing.
- Net Run Rate, or NRR, is the tiebreaker when two or more sides finish level on points.
- NRR compares how quickly a team scores its runs against how quickly it concedes them across the whole competition, not just one match.
So a side chasing a place in the knockouts doesn’t just need wins. It needs quality wins too, because a comfortable chase or a big total can matter later if the table gets tight.

The Route to the Knockouts
This is the bit that actually decides who’s playing on finals weekend, and it’s worth knowing now rather than working it out in a panic come August.
- Each side plays eight group matches, four at home and four away.
- Every team faces six opponents once, and its closest regional rival twice.
- That adds up to 32 group games before the table settles anything.
- The team that finishes top of the pile after the group stage goes straight through to the final.
- Second and third play each other in the Eliminator, essentially a knockout semi final.
- The winner of that Eliminator joins the league leader in the final at Lord’s.
For context, and this is purely an illustration rather than a prediction, imagine a side wins six of its eight matches but loses twice by big margins. They might still finish behind a team with the same points tally but a healthier NRR. That’s exactly why teams chase big wins early rather than just scraping over the line.

Sunrisers Leeds and MI London Kick Off a Wide Open 2026 Race
Every side starts from nothing tonight, and that’s what makes the next few weeks worth following. The points system rewards wins first and NRR second, and the top three after 32 group games go on to fight for a place at Lord’s.
Cricket Insider UK will keep this table updated as the results come in, match by match, all the way to the final on the 16th of August.
